Stoke Bruerne

CE Primary School

Stoke Bruerne, Class 1

Welcome back to Class 1!

Welcome back to our second autumn term, it’s so good to see all your lovey smiles again!

We have an exciting term ahead of us filled with fun learning which is outlined in more detail in the class newsletter!

In English, we will explore the genre of journey story writing. Exploring rich and ambitious vocabulary. We will use the story ‘Meerkat Mail’ to explore the journey of Sunny and how he visits different families on his travels to find a place he feels safe. We will  innovate the story with our own ideas for his travels! The focus will be sentence building, creative story writing cohesion and structure.

Please make sure your child's reading book is in school each day.

Throughout the term we will be looking at the following areas of mathematics:

EYFS – Number and Pattern: Shape, Space and Measure.

Year 1 – Position and Direction. Number and Place Value: Numbers to 20. Calculations: Addition and Subtraction within 20.

Year 2 – Multiplication and Division of 2, 5 and 10. Measuring Length and Mass

Within our science lessons, we will explore making forecasts about the weather at school. Children will: ·

- Learn about the weather for the season and consider if the weather they are expecting is typical.

- Understand more about the different seasons of the year, including the current season.

- Explore shadows at this time of year

- Report on the weather they have observed and learn how to measure the temperature.

- Measure a rain fall gauge and record the results.

The curriculum overview is attached and details the learning taking place in each subject. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate in contacting us, either at the beginning of the day of at the end when you pick your child up. Alternatively, you can email the school office to request an appointment.

We should all have a pretty full, fun-packed term which includes starting work with Rhino Sports every Monday afternoon.

Thank you for your continued support. It is very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Miss Donald, Miss Fonseca and Mr Buckland
