Whittlebury class 1
Welcome back for the Autumn term to all of the Year 1 and 2 and a very warm welcome to our new Reception children and their families. We are so excited to be back at school continuing with our exciting learning.
In English, we will be completing challenges in our talk 4 writing sessions, working on stories and writing our own pieces as well as short burst writing where we can practise and apply our growing phonics, spelling and grammar skills. This will be inspired by our focus on ‘How to catch a star’ by Oliver Jeffers as well as 'Katie and the Starry Night' by James Mayhew, 'Draw Me a Star' by Eric Carle and 'Laura’s Star' by Klaus Baumgart
Our Art and creative work this term will be inspired by the work of Kandinsky. We will look at his use of shape, line and colour. This will be in addition to art inspired by our focus on space and astronauts from our History work.
In Science, we will be looking at animals including humans, we will be able to identify which animal some babies will grow into, name some animal babies, say the three things that humans need to stay alive, give examples of healthy and less healthy food, name some things that humans do to keep themselves clean, set up a simple test and collect and interpret results.
In RE this term we will complete class shared worship and assemblies reflecting on our Christian beliefs. We will focus on how we should care for the world and others and why it matters that we do that. In PSHE, we will be looking at what makes me, me! How am I unique and special and how I am the same as and different from the people around me. This will be alongside ongoing work on recognising feelings, self-regulating, mindfulness and self-esteem.
P.E. lessons will take place on a Tuesday and Thursday and we will continue to use Real PE to support our lessons.
In History we will be exploring what it takes to be an explorer and an adventurer, what are the personal attributes needed, the support received from those around the explorers to enable them to achieve their goals and why we remember figures from the past and their achievements. The individuals we will explore in further detail will be Christopher Columbus, Neil Armstrong and Tim Peake.
Remember to keep up on our themes and work on Class dojo. I look forward to sharing all of our successes together online.
