CE Primary School

Gayton Class 1, Mrs Thurley / Mrs Steventon

Happy New Year! We hope you have all had a fantastic holiday and a well earned break!

This term we will be starting a new topic entitled 'If you go down to the woods today...' During this topic, we will be exploring the animal world, thinking about different types of animals, describing and classifying them and thinking about their habitats. We will start the term thinking about woodland creatures and will then move on to looking at different and more varied environemts

In English through our Talk 4 Writing, we will be starting this half term looking at a tale of fear, where a character has to overcome their worries. We will be using different books and exciting vocabulary to write our own setting descriptions and generating ideas for our own tales. Later in the half term, we will also be writing reports based on our knowledge of different animals in the woodland.

We will continue to learn new letter sounds in phonics- please keep checking the packs in your book bags and practising these at home too by recognising the sounds and building words using them. In Kinetic Letters we will be rehearsing the movements to form each letter- please do speak to us if you would like any guidance on letter formation. The more automatic this is for the children the easier it is for them to focus on what they are writing, supporting their development throughout the school.

In RE we will be exploring Christian beliefs and thinking carefully about why christians put crosses in Easter gardens in the lead up to Easter.

Using our computing skills, we are going to be creating animal pictures using different tools and techniques. We will also be reminding the children of the importance of Esafety and how to stay safe when using different devices. This would be a great opportunity to have a chat at home with your children to ensure that they know how to stay safe and report any worries to you as well.

If you have any questions or queries about your child’s learning, please do not hesitate to pop in and see us.

Remember to keep checking our blog to see what we've been up to!
