Gayton

CE Primary School

Gayton Class 1, Mrs Thurley & Mrs Peachy

This term we will be starting a new topic entitled ‘London’s Burning!' During this topic, we will be exploring the Great Fire of London. In geography, we will focus on the location of London, map work and features of the city. Our history work will be looking at the events leading up to fire and how the fire affected London, as well as comparing our lives today to those living in 1666. We will also be completing collage, chalk and mixed media artwork as well as designing and making our own fire engines!

In addition to our Great Fire of London work, in science, we will be studying plants, the seasons and using our senses to explore the world around us.

In English through our Talk 4 Writing, we will be starting this half term looking at a warning tale and working on our character descriptions using exciting vocabulary. We will explore the story of Little Red Riding Hood and continue our grammar and sentence level work for both Year 1 and Reception.

We will continue to learn new letter sounds in phonics- please keep practising sounds at home and particularly focusing on real and nonsense words for Year One. In Kinetic Letters we will be rehearsing the movements to form each letter- please do speak to us if you would like any guidance on letter formation. The more automatic this is for the children the easier it is for them to focus on what they are writing, supporting their development throughout the school.

In RE we will be exploring the Gospel, which will involve looking at Jesus’ 12 disciples as well as the teachings of forgiveness, peace and good news.

Using our computing skills, we are going to be practising our typing as well as creating, saving and printing different documents. We will also be using different digital technologies to take pictures and explore photo editing.

If you have any questions or queries about your child’s learning, please do not hesitate to pop in and see us.

Remember to keep checking our ClassDojo and blog to see what we've been up to!
